Paragraph 1 – Introduction:
The first paragraph of your letter should refer information on why you are writing. For instance: I am writing to apply for the role of (High School Principal job title or job reference number) as advertised on www.jobsportalxx.com. As you can see from my attached resume, I have been successful at [name of current employer] and am now looking to build on these achievements in a [more senior role/bigger company].
Paragraph 2 and 3 – Description:
In your body paragraphs try to answer the following questions: What work experience do I have that fits the job requirements in the company’s listing? Why am I a qualified candidate for this position? Why do I want to work for this company specifically? For example: I worked within the industry for over [insert years experience], I have developed a wide range of skills that would meet, and exceed the expectations for the role. Paragraph 4 – Closing:
Discuss the next steps. If you are going to follow up in one to two weeks, mention a specific date. If you would prefer to leave the ball in their court, say that you look forward to discussing your qualifications further. Also provide your email address and phone number. Don’t forget to thank them for their time.
