Salutation:

Dear (insert name of hiring manager), Typically, when sending your cover letter you want to send it to a specific person whenever possible.

First paragraph:

In the first part of letter introduce yourself to the employer and how you found the job posting. For instance: As a motivated individual you are extremely interested in submitting an application for the job (Elementary School Principal) position role currently advertised at Jobportalxx.com.

Middle paragraphs:

In your body paragraphs try to answer the following questions: What work experience do I have that fits the job requirements in the company’s listing? Why am I a qualified candidate for this position? Why do I want to work for this company specifically? For example: I worked within the industry for over [insert years experience], I have developed a wide range of skills that would meet, and exceed the expectations for the role. In my present role as a [insert current job title] for [insert current employer] I have had many achievements, including [insert key achievement].

Final paragraph:

Demonstrate a willingness to supply the employer with additional information. For example: I have attached my resume for your review and would welcome the chance to speak with you sometime. I am confident that I possess the attributes you are looking for and that my experience to date would prove invaluable to [company/organisation]. I would very much welcome the opportunity to meet you and to discuss my application further.

Always end your covering letter with “Yours sincerely” if you have addressed it to a named contact (e.g. Mr. Adam Smith)
or with “Yours faithfully” if you have not addressed it to anyone specific.

Sending an Email Cover Letter

In case of emailing your cover letter, you have to write a Subject line, that should includes your name and job title (e.g. Elementary School Principal). In the email body don’t list the employer contact information, start your email message with the salutation, include your contact information in your email signature.
